A short memoir of flying from Mumbai to Toronto

It's not as if I am flying for the first time in life. The first time I was .. let's just say a little pre-occupied with something more important .. my wife :) 'Twas our honeymoon and we decided to go someplace which required a passport, visa, an Immigration check, the dreaded security check, Boarding and all the strings that are attached to it all.
It's more than 2 years today and I am flying solo. That was a total journey of about 2-3 hours. This time it's 24+. I have a lot of time to observe, reflect and of-course praise and/or rant about it. So here goes --

Let me say it, Mumbai airport is not good. Even if I was not too observant back then, you simply had to fall in love with the Singapore Airport. That is the first thing that people see of your country. It has to be impeccable period.

The flight I was supposed to be on does not operate from Mumbai. Flying to Toronto, I had to take a stop in Zurich. Air Canada has a tie up with Swiss Air so their passengers fly together. This was the fine print. I do not read the fine print often -- first mistake.
You are expected to ask "volunteers" of different airline carriers about where to go. I am not very good at that and haven't really thought of getting around my short-comings as a "stranger people person" -- second mistake.

The fact that airline carriers need to have "volunteers" roaming around the airport is because the airport does not have a proper "Information Desk". Please don't ask me about overhead signs, laterines and a decent appearance. Even my hair and nails hurt thinking about it.
This is turning into a rant about the Mumbai airport right ? I'll stop.

Once the initial hiccup of whether I will be flying at all or not was solved, the next hurdle in the race was the Immigration check. The way to this area is next to the window for boarding of a carrier. People reading the sign "Immigration" saw this line and joined in. I was not too far off of-course. After about 5 minutes, the "volunteers" smelled something wrong and started telling people to move to the right window and out of the dreaded line. I don't know why but these guys specifically ignore desis. Maybe a bad memory or something, can't say. The point is I had to do some "asking" and got myself there.

The third in the race was a security check. This is the one that takes a lot of sweat. As usual the security check was as if they were counting sheep. Literally 5-10 people to control about 500. It was in a area comparable to my ancestoral house's backyard.

Now the journey has a turn for the good. Once the guys of the airlines, get hold of you, you are good. There are smiling faces to greet you. You are "requested" to wait rather than pointed at. I had a aisle seat and was wondering how a fat desi guy would be sitting next to me blasting Punjabi Pop out of his "in-ear" headphones taking half of my seat in the process. It was a pleasant turn after all when I noticed a gori mem sitting in the seat next to me. She spoke some language I couldn't decode and a little English. She was not fat and was not blasting music. Infact she was the most timid little thing I have seen in a while. She was reading "Shantaram" (note to self ...)
Never had the proverbial "got talking" thing going. But she was polite. I observed this with not just the flight attendants but the goras and kallus on the flight as well. All of them are polite. Yes, it makes you awkward at first but it's a good thing. Read on for a bad experience I am about to have.
This is .. well the very first "cultural shock".
You just don't ask a person if it's ok with switching on the lights in the Pune-Lonavala local. That would not just be crazy, but might as get robbed -- I am serious.

The flight itself was not very relaxing thanks to the economy class seats, and a little rough weather patches.
I ordered for coffee towards the end of the journey due to the fact that I needed to be awake in the waiting area. The coffee hits you, HARD.
I don't know what beans these guys are grinding back there but whatever it is, it works. I couldn't sleep for four hours during the wait, I even tried to, cannot sleep.
As you approach Zurich, all you see is white. Snow. Snow. You read it right ? No, ok .. snow. You see it in movies, and sample pictures in the cheap 25 Rs. picture frames. And then you see it right there. Even though I didn't have a window seat, it was a spectacular view. Let me add it's a good thing till it's on the ground and you are not. Once you two meet, it get's a little chilly. -6 degrees C to be exact and frankly you love it. It makes to wake up and be attentive. Once you are inside the airport building heaters take over and kill off whatever excitement you had of the cold weather.

You see (and take photos of) the Zurich airport --
Travel the subway train that takes you to different gates and the waiting area etc. Cleanliness taken to the next level. There is some thought put into this automatically operated train which carries about 50 people to and fro a 5 minute track. They have glass walls all around so you are not bored.
Remember about the lack of elevators or "working" lifts at Mumbai
Think how poor you are to even look at the windows that have bright lights, and models with impossible bodies and impossibly white teeth. That reminds me, now that I have checked and repaird all my teeth in India, becuase it costs less, I now have to start using Colgate Sensiva toothpaste. It also reminds me how we travel -- I am carrying one tube with me. The airline put a limit of 10 kgs and of two bags, damnit we'll carry 2 bags of 9.5+ kg weight. Now whose laughing hah ? .. Oh ..
Goras and kallus generally have a small bag with them when they travel. And by small I mean "are you joking?" tiny by Indian standards. I will be taking up this habbit. That also means, buying a new smaller laptop that will fit a small bag. I need the right equipment. What are you smiling about ?

You find weirdos everwhere, but the goras take the cake in this section. You will find them in haircuts you thought would have looked best on your pet. You find them with clothes you thought could have made a nice halloween costume and then decided it was too off-the-hook even for a joke.
I will be going for another round of immigration check, boarding and security checks now and move towards the final destination -- Toronto.

The security check here was something out of a sci-fi movie. They swiped something on my laptop and tested the collector paper. Maybe they thought I was carrying RDX in minute quantites and over a period of 3700 trips, would have enough to rock the neighbourhood :) At the gate, it hits you, You are not alone (sing it) .. I'll be there for you .. There were as many Punjabis in the last batch of NCC if I remeber correctly, or was it lesser as there are on this flight. Anyways, the point is, it's going to be a interesting 6 months living in a foreign country with not-so-foreign people around you. They say, England has the most population of Indians outside of India, that's UK, US, Canada, Australia ....
Is New Zealand taken too, or can I move in there and feel special, atleast for a little while. :)

One of my worst flights ever. It had to happen, to break the jinx, to wipe off the memories of a quiet & fulfilling 8 hours.
You want to make a train from Bihar to Patna out of a airplane? Simple, get a Indian family in it, but make sure you get the ingredients right --
1. First you need a mother who doesn't know how to speak a particular language, but very well understands it. Better if she can't even say yeah or nay. Just uses here head to do that.
2. Get a father who can only sleep about, consuming two seats and pretty much do nothing else.
3. Get a pesky kid in there who cannot sleep, cannot watch TV, or shut-up when told so.
But has clearly mastered the art of kicking the seat of the passenger seated next to, behind, or in front of him. And in doing so, screaming, shouting and roaming about in the plane as if this was the next shooting location for a Govinda starrer dream sequence -- with the Jhankar beats mind you.
4. Get a Dad, who is technically challenged to the limit that some people might confuse him for being mentally challenged as well.
5. Get a punk, about 25 years of age, never been outside of the town he lives in, thinks he has the physique of Salman, looks of Hrithik and actually rubs off as a monkey.
Mix 'em up and wait for a few hours. I give you, a royal mess even HER highness cannot explain.
Someone needs to tell the people boarding the flight, we need to "press" a touch screen for it to work and not "tap" it. It's not just annoying at the back of the head for the guy sitting in front of you, but in the process you end up looking like and idiot and not actually achieve anything.
It should be banned to have families talk to each other when they are not seated next to each other.

Let me confess it, I hate the teeny weeny plastic forks and spoons in the packaged meals. I once tried cutting chicken with the plastic knife and it broke. That was 13 years ago. Never tried it again.
Today I gave it a shot, what the heck and voila we have a morsel. You hold the piece you wanna eat with the fork and cut it out of the slab with the knife in the other hand. Simple. Except it sometimes takes 17 knife strokes to cut a piece if it is over cooked and takes 3 knives if it is under-cooked. The inflight entertainment was noting to write home about but then the kid was enough entertainment for the whole section.

Will be signing off now and go through the third and final round of, security and all that jazz. I am actually excited to post this on the blog and get some comments on it.

Ok, so if the security check at Zurich was something out of a sci-fi movie, this was a bad dream. Fascism at it's best. People literally order you around. They will throw your passport in the general direction they want and it's upto you to take care of it. Oh and did I mention they charge you for he baggage trolley?
Anyways, All's well that ends well.

I have had some experience with Photoshop and now GIMP and I know how difficult it is to sketch something so fast and be meaningful at the same time. This not only requires hand-eye co-ordination but also the skills of a clever writer who unfolds his story line by line, piece by piece.

It's funny how a thing like sand, as old as time itself is being used to create something so beautiful. This is nowhere as high-tech as the first one. Maybe a few camera angles and a back-light. It makes you think that you are made from this very same stuff which this lady manipulates and creates things out of. Ever felt like playing god ?

Search on youtube or metacafe for more vidoes if you like it and make sure you buy stuff to support the artist instead of torrenting the damn thing.

I made the mistake of putting the link to my blog on my orkut profile and I had a flood of visitors. Many of them curious about the fact that I even have one :)
The post about the mother ready to risk it all for her kids had the maximum comments (obviously). The post about my wife and her adventures in the company was another "controversial" post, (fine) I can see that. But goddamn, no-one, NO-ONE mentioned/commented about the Unix file permissions or about my software project to read online books. I wonder if anyone even noticed 'em.

Anyways, the bastard that I am, even I would upload my pics in "foren" land the moment I set foot. Not sure when ... :)

Meant to write this for a while now. The other day it was raining heavily. I was leaving my office building towards the parking lot. I ride a bike and was all dressed up for the occasion, raincoat, rain-pants, helmet and all. I met one of our colleagues in the lift and she said would you drop me off at the railway station. I agreed and we started. As we approached the station, we saw the train leave. Since she stays on my way home, she asked me to drop her off at her place. I protested saying that it would be terrible because she didn't even have a jacket to wear. I gave up the fight and as we were riding down the highway, we started to have a chat and that's when she told me she needed to get back home fast because her twins wouldn't have had dinner. It struck me then and there how a mother is attached to her kids. She was ready to risk a bike ride without a helmet, willing to get wet for a ride which would have easily taken about an hour. I knew my mother loved me, but now I know how strongly a mother feels about her cubs.

Sanai Chaughade

Today I saw this movie Sanai Chaughade and it's a somewhat mediocre movie trying to bring forward a social stigma about women having babies before marriage and the reluctance of men to accept them as they are. The climax was somewhat of a downer with a typical "hero" of the movie doing the right thing at the end. My alternative ending would have been the girl does not accept the proposal and her brother-in-law keeps his word of raising the illegal love child as his own. That would have been the real slap on the face of the society that this movie tries to awaken. Anyways, my wife after the movie said she wanted to read the credits to find who the new actress was. So a little Google/Yahoo search and voila. All-in-all, I would say money was not wasted buying the tickets but the story could have been tweaked a little here and there to make a lasting impression.
Also, what's up with product placement in movies to cut down on cost. In today's day and age when regional Marathi movies are giving a tough fight to big Bollywood titles, this move really leaves a sour taste in your mouth.

First thing without knowing a thing about the Free Software ideology he declares it being stupid and silly idea -- that maybe fine since everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but making fun of Indians twice just constitutes as a racist remark.
Let us just say all the Indian Call Centers are shutdown for a day, who would you guys call up to ask where the start button is?

A small brain and three worries !!!

'Twas about 6:00 pm and I was leaving the company gates to go home. My small brain had three things weighing in on my mind. My wife's boss was asking her out for dinner, the country's future depended upon a vote and I had to take care of some unfinished business.

My wife is working in a company where she hasn't been exactly happy with her work profile. A manager from another department met her in the company canteen along with her other friends. He said he would have her transferred to his department since the workload there was a lot. Sounds good right, wrong. He did keep his word and sure enough the next day the job was done. On his way out, he said to celebrate this, we need to go out for a party. A party just for the two of them. Alone. Not good. I knew what I was gonna tell her to answer, but still wanted to make sure to sugar coat it in such a way that she doesn't lose on the opportunity on the new job.
The country's house was supposed to vote at 7:00 pm which would decide whether the current coalition stays in power or not. That directly relates to the stock market and oil prices. Which means if my stocks rise or fall and how much will I have to shell out for petrol the next week. I knew the current party will prove the majority and they will stay in power and also that going by the current rate, I will have to pay for more than I usually do. It was just a question of how today's vote would affect the market tomorrow.
A few days back I bought a 500 GB hard disk and decided to move all my data to it. Being the open source junkie that I am, I decided to format it using the ext3 file system. It is one of the best file systems for day-to-day use. I say this not by hear-say but by personal experience. I have used the EXT2 IFS Driver for Windows for partitions on an internal disk. So I thought I would just use it for this as well. But alas, it doesn't work for usb disks. Now I need to move the data back to my laptop, ipod etc. Then format it using NTFS and move the data back (back) again. I knew what I had to do but I just needed to figure out the time to do it at.

On my way back, listening to the No Agenda podcast, I kinda lost the worries and took on the worries of the whole world :)

OK, so many of you *NIX users have used tools like chmod and know about the permissions that the numbers give. But how did anyone come up with these numbers. Here's an explanation.

I am in the business of software quality assurance. I am taking up learning to develop software to wet my feet in the water rather than sit on the shore and throw stones at it.
So I have taken up learning C and C++ on the GNU/Linux platform.
Many people say you need a goal to make something when you start learning to program so that you can keep going and keep progress and learn along the way. So, my plan is to develop a program which can be used as a reader for the wonderful novels available at Project Gutenberg.
I found a couple of programs which do it but they are either too old or have become dormant.
My main goals are to --
1. Provide a way to locally browse the wonderful texts available at the site using their machine readable format of collection. (must have)
2. Provide a way to bookmark each file in session per user basis. (must have)
3. Provide a way to display meta data about the text using online resources such as Wikipedia. (good to have)
4. Provide for a way to comment on or blog about the book from the interface itself. (good to have)

The list of features could go on along with the unsaid features that are expected from any reader. For example a way to change the display properties, fonts, colors etc.

Let's hope this is not a unrealistic target which will deter me from the learning the language at all after a couple of months.

The craze about "foren"

I just checked my orkut profile after ages and something struck me. The homepage comes with the latest updates about activities from my friends. Six out of eight had updated their photos. And all the photos from "foren" :) It doesn't matter if they lived almost 25 years in India and will be in "foren" for about 2 weeks but they will have about 1000 fotos of the place.
Of-course there is nothing wrong in taking pictures when you go somewhere, but if so much camera savvy, why don't you have photos from the place you've visited in India ?
No, the pride you have when displaying photos from US or UK in India is surreal.
Seems weird, but heck who am I to judge.

f22 -- sharp overall image. Results in a the subject and background to be in focus hence the subject is just as important as the background.
f2.8 -- sharp subject, out of focus background. Results in the subject to be in focus hence the subect is highlighted and the viewers eyes are focused on it.

Progress in the software project

For quite some time now I am planning to get writing a software that will let you collect data from remote *NIX boxes and be able to store/assess that meta-data about those boxes for archiving etc.
I had the concepts pretty much locked down and it will be just a matter of time before I am able to
do this and present it to the public.
Today for the first time I tried successfully the host based public key authentication system for ssh for we can connect and run commands on remote boxes without the need to enter a password and do it securely.
Lets see, I have started to categorize the data and logically place it in documents to come up with a solution really soon.

1. Search for patterns in the shot and emphasize on it. -- lines, intersection etc,
2. Change perspective of camera lense instead of eye level. -- top view etc
3. Dont keep subject in the center of the frame, instead make the eye travel across the photo to reach the person.
4. Shoot frames which might suggest a different view than the once current, example take image of crevice that might suggest cleavage etc.
5. Capture important moments in profile rather than full-face.
6. Capture timestamp images in B/W with the right white balance.
7. Suggest sad images with dark colors/shadows etc
8. Use higher shutter speed for capturing things in motion to avoid streaks -- person walking, birds takeoff etc
9. Attention to detail instead of whole capture in case of handcrafts -- small part of wood carving for showcase and a higher megapixel image to archive
10. Ask model to do something different other than stare at the lens -- Hold a bird, jump etc
11. Capture reflections in water, glass
12. Try to match background pattern with the subject -- color, texture etc
13. Use differential focus to emphasize on the subject
14. Capture stark contrast in the frame to trigger memories -- old & young father/son, old & new technologies etc
15. Use sepia tones to depict vintage/ancient architecture/cultures etc
16. Dont use direct light source (camera flash) when shooting people to avoid unnecessary skin color brightening, red eye etc
17. Dont use omnilight (direct) light source when shooting material which may reflect light which may result in white streaks in hair etc.

So, there I was listening to Texas Radio Theatre Company and I was listening to the performance "Some Words With a Mummy" link, when I had a thought. What kind of legacy am I leaving back? The Pharaohs from Egypt made huge sculptures and carvings for generations and thousands of years to see. Do we think about the guy who worked as a mason or accountant under the local businessman ? No.
Take any civilisation for that matter, we remember the guy who ran the first marathon which later became the Olympic race, we know the kings who made the pyramids and the Taj Mahal. By co-incidence, I Stumbled Upon a youtube video about time-travel and how some top scientists think that it's not only possible but also very likely. We may be also moving towards a new world order that comes under a unified governance - Stage 1 Civilisation. Who would remember a software engineer who worked 9 hours a day ? Some historian might dig up facts about Bill Gates and his empire, about Linus Torvalds and his continuing development of the Linux kernel that helped millions and hinted to bring down the empire.
I had heard about Roz Savage who quit her job to row across the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans. Now that is definitely something that people of the coming generations will remember and historians will write about and teach about. So what should be done? Should we just quit our jobs and start doing something that will make into the record books? No. That will mean chaos. What we really need to do is help the bright minds out there who are already trying to make a difference in whatever means possible. If you really believe in global warming, make sure you carry a kerchief and use that instead of 5 paper napkins per day. If you believe that we can find the cure for AIDS, Cancer or even the common cold, make sure you donate your body for medical research when you die.
Do your bit. Dont just exist, live.

Google Reader -- bad

Ok, so after the good, here comes the bad. After using Google Reader for more than 2 weeks now, I feel how things can be extended/changed for the good.
First of all, I want to filter out the feeds just like I can filter out emails in gmail -- based on keywords. Because apparently Valleywag has decided to market the Sarah Lacey book to no end and I dont give a damn about the girl or her book.
Second, I want it to be intelligent enough to put the duplicate stories in a separate container for me , to check out later if required. Each story now-a-days is reported 5 times atleast from ALL of the so called news sites and its not funny anymore.

I had been following a few pages regularly for a couple of months now. I used the Firefox bookmarks folder to store all the links I wanted to read and open all of then in tabs every couple of hours. Then all of a sudden, I realized many sites offered RSS. I have tried to use RSS feed readers in the past. I tried a few and it just didn't cut it for me. Then I found Google Reader. It's good that I can access my lists from work or office.
The best part is I can share stuff I find interesting with a click of a mouse. It creates an albeit Google-ish website, but it works.link

I have always blamed GNOME for making it tough for a person to interact with the computer. I like the way KDE 4 is coming along but its just not there yet.
I think the kOffice 2 based on QT 4 is also looking good.

Seriously, if the format is as "open" as they say, why are they pushing it so hard? Surely there has to be some advantage to it right? I mean if they had nothing to gain from it, they wouldn't go around fighting for it everywhere, right? That means they have something in it that they have control over. That means they things in there which are not that open after all.

Thank god India said to NO to the format. Well, things are not as bad in Indian decision makers after all.

A new product idea

Many people are now looking at HDTVs for their next purchase. Wouldn't you want to have a small unit, maybe the size of a hand or something that has your standard connections and it displays screensaver clips. Maybe a Yule Log during christmas, an aquarium, anything .. Well, it should cost around 40-50$ and it should have USB or Network connectivity to update the screensavers on it It could be monitized by giving away some simple short ones and selling longer ones with more details/quality. It may have about 2-4GB of flash memory onboard to save the clips. Ofcourse the 8GB one would cost an extra of 20$

Imagine, you plan a retro party and with a click on the remote, you have a lava lamp on the 52" screen. You have someone over for a late night coffee, you put on an aquarium. You plan to do yoga this afternoon, you put on a soothing waterfall with the natural sounds.

Well, just an idea.

Well so many of us live in a area/country/workplace etc that we dont know much about because we don't have so much time. Like so, we also tend to forget a lot of things that are the basics of a lot of things we do and would like to document them.
Well, here's an idea -
A wiki, that lists the top 5/10 basic things to know about a topic. So if you live in a certain city, which are the basic things to know about it. If you work on a technology/machinery etc, what are the basic things to know about it. Things like its history/creator/important dates etc.
The site will be maintained by the community primarily (being a wiki) and there would be a voting system that votes the top 5 or 10 things a newbie can catch quickly and then there would a be place where we can get a comprehensive list of basic things to know.

Tell me who made the monument that is famous in your area, in what year etc. Of course you could research on it and tell me but wouldn't it be great to know a list of things about your city in one page that the community thinks are most important. Well, as I said, an IDEA can change your life.

Although I am in no way an expert on the great Hindu texts, I have to say I am starting to see a hidden meaning behind these rich poems. I can see why many people read them and ask everyone around them to read it as well. Anyways, I was a bit skeptic earlier about the fact whether Ramayan ever happened or is it just as they call it, "Mahakavya" (Great Poems).

I found this link here and I have to say, modern astronomical evidence does coincide with the facts stated in the Ramayan. Fact or a well crafted/thought out fiction. Will need more research to confirm.

After installing FreeBSD on the old dataserver, I had to update it today to the latest 6.2-Release today and god damn it, I cant even remember some basic commands. Here's a list of some basic commands you would need to play around.

Yahoo! just decided to shut down the Yahoo! Photos service and move their users to Flickr.

That's not the problem. You cannot download the set/album/photos easily.

Watch each and every photo, click "Download" button and save the file on your local hard-drive.
I am giving the finger to Yahoo and will no longer use their service anymore.

Got the back of the frame (made of pressed wood grain) and cut the size of the LCD hole in it and placed the lcd in it.

The actual frame assembly.

Started it up and it still works ..

Photos full-screen look nice.

Made a new Digital Picture Frame out of a fully working laptop. A Compaq Armada E500 to be precise. I took this step cause I will be getting a new one which is fast and also the current laptop's LCD hinges were giving away and the screen would just fall off and not stand straight.

I plan to use this not just as a picture viewer, but extending it for a full screen calendar/organizer for the family, a music player .. the possibilities are endless.

The Maintanence and Service Guide from Compaq website helped a lot to disassemble the whole thing without breaking it. Go to your laptop manufacturers website to get the document to disassemble. You can even google for it.

Here we go -
(Will put up the exact steps later)

Once the display was out of the way, I went ahead to extend the wires coming out of it so that the lcd could be stuck behind the laptop and hung on the wall flat.

A close-up. Notice, I still have not removed the lcd from its casing.

Time to break away from the shackles of the casing.

Believe me the lcd without the casing looks stunning.
Word of caution - handle the thing VERY carefully. Its not paper or even plastic. These things are very brittle. Also try not to plug the wires out and plug them back in over and over again. Its not good for these tiny things.

Boot it up and it works !!!

Time to try it in the final position.

The old machine is talked about a few days back, finally has a NIC and a new keyboard to go with it. The OS if FreeBSD 6.0-release. Will put up the pics later.

Went with FreeBSD coz, I used to use it a lot earlier. Even had a podcast about it, FreeBSD for all. Go ahead, search Archive.org, you may find some episodes there. It was even up on itunes for a while, but the listener number went drastically down and I got a little busier as well.

Now I am waiting for a switch to set up my home network.

The other day, lying on my bed, I saw the ceiling fan in motion. I couldn't really see the individual blades though. Just a bleak circle. Isn't that some level of invisibility ?

Now only we need to figure out a way to rotate at high RPMs and keep our senses in place to be invisible.

Many have tried to define our dreams. Some people say they are sign to the future. Some say memories about your past life and many varied ideas of some very intellectual people are all over the place.

Wikipedia says -
A dream is the experience of envisioned images, sounds, or other sensations during sleep. The events of dreams are often impossible or unlikely to occur in physical reality, and are usually outside the control of the dreamer. The exception is lucid dreaming, in which dreamers realize that they are dreaming, and are sometimes capable of changing their oneiric reality and controlling various aspects of the dream, in which the suspension of disbelief is often broken.[1] Dreamers may experience strong emotions while dreaming. Frightening or upsetting dreams are referred to as nightmares. The discipline of dream research is oneirology. link

My definition -

Preface -
Our brain can be divided in two sections (conscious and semi-conscious). The things we see/hear/feel/say/smell actively are processed using the conscious mind. The things we experience without thinking too much about, like thinking about a person for a second or so, get accumulated in the semi-conscious section.
The short attention span can be attributed to many reason, could be a call your mobile, conversation taking a different turn with a person or anything.

Activity -
When our brain is resting (when we sleep) the brain tries to clean up some of the stuff that needs to be processed. Somewhat like a journaling file system or a database dirty page logs. These experiences (sights/sounds/thoughts/textures) are not exactly classified/structured. So in order to process them, the brain may mix them up. This processing, will of-course give out some kind of output ala. A Dream.

Example -
The other night, I over-heard (semi-conscious) some-one describing the incredible sound system in the new Mercedes. Later that day, we were having a chat about new sofa sets and what color should it be.
The dream involved a Mercedes (obviously the Mercedes was caught but not the sound system) and a cloth with the color we were talking about. Not red colored upholstery in a Mercedes. Just some sights or sounds about a Merc and some red cloth.

Verification -
When you do we have a dream and do remember it, try to recall if you experienced any of the elements the previous 1-2 days. Try it.

Of-course I don't have any survey results to backup my claims. But the people I have talked to about this, certainly do agree (to some level atleast).

The wada (place of residence) is really showing its age. I guess we need a big company or something that will take up the job of restoration of the wada.

Have had a hair-pulling experience trying to get my S-Video out on my cheap old laptop to work fine. Apparently every laptop maker decides (with a team of people) how complicated they can make this thing, and then set about to doing it.

Apparently Fiesty+1 release will be taking care of laptop video ports automagically.

Was happy with Dapper and suddenly one day, had the urge to go to Edgy. A software wanted it. Now the update manager thinks I am on Dapper and wants to install old security updates.

Life on the edge is not that great. Hibernate does not work, usb mouse needs to be re-plugged. Damn this is bad. Ah well, am going to upgrade to Fiesty so will live with it.

My Beryl desktop

Since everyone is showing off their Beryl desktop, here goes -

This laptop has about 512MB of RAM. Notice the glowing buttons, the cube of-course, the shadow with transparency under the window borders, animations all the way and all, I am using Vista at work (not production, but testing compatibility) and I know on this laptop, Vista will barely install.

Beryl is getting stable now-a-days and lot of the defects are being fixed. Including the one where new windows, used to hide behind existing ones. "I likes it very much".

Dont you hate it when you cut a surprise birthday cake at 12 midnight with family and friends and at 1:30 again wake up to find your dog couting its last breath. I hate it when that happens.

For anyone who cares, I used to have a blog about a year back and was uploading it quiet frequently. I actually had 4 of 'em, go ahead, I think Google's cache still finds it valuable info. Anyways, on one drunkun evening, the computer supposedly automatically deleted the account, AI anyone ?

So I'm back, not that anyone would notice ...
